What is Web Hosting

The term Web Hosting can cover a multitude of topics, in its most basic form, it is the act of placing a website files (text, images, videos, etc) on a server so that internet users can view them using their browsers.

In most cases it will also cover other needs of the website including email services, logging information and security features.

Web Server

A Web Server can be used to identify two completely different objects.
  • A server
    (specially build Computer)
    that is running software required to host (keep) a website.
  • An application
    (software)
    that serves the website files to the internet users using the appropriate protocols internet browsers can understand.
